The Tao is empty yet inexhaustible.
How profound, infinitely deep!
It seems to be the mother of all things.
Within it (the Tao), sharp edges become smooth;
conflicts are resolved,
lights are harmonised,
merging it with the world,
hidden and invisible!
But also seems to exist in actuality.
I do not know who gave birth to it.
It seems to be the ancestor of all things,
older than the Universe.

道冲,而用之有弗盈也。
渊呵!似万物之宗。
锉其兑,解其纷,
和其光,同其尘。湛呵!
似或存。吾不知其谁之子,象帝之先。
