How to Cure Extreme Wanderlust Without Travelling
I am not sure about you, but I have suffered from this almost incurable disease called wanderlust for as long as I can remember. And you think it might be cured by travelling more, but that has only seemed to worsen the situation.
The cycle of my itchy feet has now shortened to less than one and a half months, that is, every 1.5 months this severe wanderlust syndrome kicks in and I will find myself start looking at flight tickets, amazing YouTube travel videos or Instagram travel accounts, while fantasizing about how amazing it'd be if, say, I'm currently dancing on the world's largest salt flat Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia; or sipping on coconut water Koh Phangan; or going on Safari in Cape Town...
The more I travel, the more I realise how little I have seen, and there are just so many wonders and so much unknown in the world, which only ignites your desire to travel and explore even more. It is my philosophy in life that one should venture into the Unknown as much as possible when one still has got the energy to do so.
Courage is a love affair with the Unknown.
But what to do when you can't really roam as freely as you'd wish? (Well, at least not yet, but I'm sure one day this will happen to me, probably in three or four years time once I clear out some karma at home). And I do intend to live a full-time nomadic lifestyle for at least one to two years in my life, if not longer, and build a career that's absolutely location independent (zero compromises on this one).
If you also suffer from extreme wanderlust like me, here I offer some tips for curing extreme wanderlust without leaving home:
Scrolling through old travel photos and create something out of it. For instance, you can create your own travel account with all your travel photos and videos (Adding a philosophical/spiritual caption, poems, and filter, then post on Instagram or Facebook. This is what I have done, my Instagram travel account is anjali_wonderlust).
Over the years, I have come to discover the power of Creativity, and it can literally cure anything, ranging from heartbreak to depression, and of course, wanderlust, at least temporarily.
2. Making new friends
Making new friends from all over the world who are travellers to your home country, immersing yourself in different exotic accents and cultures, so you feel like you are still travelling, and Melbourne is a great place for exactly that.
PS. foreign accents are just so sexy and I don't even know what I mean when I say 'foreign', considering my background, I am also kind of foreign. I suppose I mean accents that I'm not accustomed to.
3. Exploring local sceneries
I realise I definitely need to do this more often. Despite living in Melbourne for over ten years, I have only recently discovered Elwood beach. And for God's sake, I haven't even been to the famous Dandenong Ranges.
4. Always do something new
Go camping (even in your backyard), try out new restaurants/cafes, drive down a new road, writing up travel stories etc.
5. Planning for your next trip
Planning a little bit for the next adventure but also endeavour to stay in the present without being too attached to the plan. Balance is indeed the key to happiness in life.
